Funding Rules & Application Instructions

COST Insect-IMP applications for grants are open all year long! The application is done through e-COST, see below.

Networking activities organised through a Grant Awarding Process encompass mobility of researchers and innovators and presentations at conferences organised by third parties.

The grant awarding by COST Actions and its implementation:
• Contributes to the visibility of COST as an open, flexible, and inclusive funding programme;
• Offers a valuable experience for Young Researchers and Innovators as well as for the already established researchers in supporting their career development;
• Can strengthen the existing networks by allowing researchers and innovators to foster collaboration both in a face-to-face and online setting, to exchange knowledge, learn new techniques, disseminate the Action results, etc.

Application:
• Shall be submitted by an individual and for an activity complying with the conditions described in A1-2.2 Access conditions
• Shall be submitted online in e-COST using dedicated forms available. In this regard, applicants are informed that their application can be accessed by the holders of leadership positions and any evaluation committees in the Action for evaluation purposes.
• Applicants must upload their CV in their e-COST profile. This information will be visible to the holders of leadership positions and any evaluation committees in the Action for evaluation purposes.

  1. Sign into eCOST and click on “COST Actions” button in the upper left corner of the home page.
  2. Click on “My Grant Applications” in the upper left corner.
  3. Click on the blue button “Apply for grant” in the lower right corner and choose to grant to apply to.
  4. In the application, select the COST Action to apply to. Insect-IMP is CA22140.

STSM - Short-Term Scientific Missions

Short-term scientific missions (STSM) are exchange visits between researchers involved in a COST Action, allowing scientists to visit an institution or laboratory in another COST Member state. These scientific missions may last up to six months in another COST Member/Cooperating Member or Near-Neighbour Country joining the Action. Their aim is to foster collaboration in excellent research infrastructures and share new techniques that may not be available in a participant’s home institution or laboratory.

The candidate can request up to 4,000€ (up to 50% of the requested money can be requested upfront), and the amount should reflect the actual costs (travelling, accommodation, and subsistence expenses) in the planned location and time period.

The requirements are:

  • Support specific / general topic that can help achieving the Action MoU objectives and deliverables (research coordination);
  • you visit someone outside of your country;
  • the application consists of the Title, start and end date (end date needs to be before 10th October!), requested budget, location and information about the host, application form (template available on e-COST) with the project description, confirmation of the host on the agreement;
  • report on the work developed after the completed visit, main achievements of the STSM, and planned future follow-up activities.

YRI - Young Researcher and Innovator Confrence Grant

YRI Conference grant funds a presentation (poster/oral presentation) of their own work by a Young Researcher and Innovator (YRI) in a high-level conference fully organized by a third party, i.e. not organized nor co-organized by the COST Action. The YRI conference grant has no geographical limitation.

The candidate can request up to  2,500€ per grant for face-to-face conferences or 500€ for online conferences.

The requirements are:

  • You are a Young Researcher or Innovator (a researcher under the age of 40);
  • You have a paper or poster accepted for presentation at an international conference;
  • The conference takes place in a country different from your country of residence and different from the country of your primary affiliation;
  • The topic of your paper or poster and the conference theme are relevant to INSECT IMP action;
  • Conferences in Europe are preferred, but conferences outside of Europe may be considered as well.

ITC Conference Grant

ITC Conference grant funds an oral presentation of their own work within the scope of the Action by an Action Participant affiliated to a legal entity located in an Inclusiveness Target Country / Near Neighbour Country in a high-level conference fully organized by a third party, i.e. not organized nor co-organized by the COST Action. ITC Conference grant has no age limitation.

The candidate can request up to  2,500€ per grant for face-to-face conferences or 500€ for online conferences.

The requirements are:

  • The applicant’s primary affiliation is an institution located in an Inclusiveness Target Countries and NNC.
  • The conference takes place in a country different from your country of residence and different from the country of your primary affiliation.
  • The applicant must make an oral/poster presentation at the conference in question and must be listed in the official event/conference program. The main subject of the oral presentation / poster presentation / speech at the approved conference must be on the topic of the Action and must acknowledge COST.

Dissemination Conference Grant

Dissemination Conference grant funds an oral presentation by an Action Participant of the work of the Action in a highlevel conference fully organized by a third party, i.e. not organized nor co-organized by the COST Action.

The candidate can request up to  2,500€ per grant for face-to-face conferences or 500€ for online conferences.

The requirements are:

  • The applicant must give an oral presentation about the INSECT IMP Action and must be listed as a speaker in the official conference, symposium, or meeting programme. The oral presentation must promote the current and planned activities of the INSECT IMP Action.
  • Any member of INSECT IMP is eligible to apply.
  • Attendance at European conferences, symposia or meetings is preferred. However, conferences held elsewhere will also be considered.

VM – Virtual Mobility Grant

Virtual Mobility grant consists of a collaboration in an online setting among researchers or innovators within the COST Action, to exchange knowledge, learn new techniques, etc.

The candidate can request up to  1,500€ per grant.

The requirements are:

  • Applicant(s) are Action participants with a primary affiliation to an institution located in a COST Full or Cooperating Member country or MC Observers from a COST Near Neighbour Country. 
  • The applicant(s) shall inform the MC about the aim of the VM Grant and how its outcomes will generate benefits to the Action, actively contribute to the activities and overall objectives of the Action and submit a report at the end, to be approved by the VNS manager on behalf of the MC.
